  • OH NO LOOK AT THE VAN

Well, we went to the cabin Friday and Saturday. It is 45 minutes away.
Saturday morning 8:15am we heard this giant crack…… We look out and
what do you know a tree branch has fallen onto my car. The only real damage
seems to be the broken plastic around my mirror. The branch was longer then the van.

  • Update on our Experiment

Here is an update on our Experiment :
We have not been using Air conditioning this year. Many people can not see how a person could live with out air conditioning. It is the fact that we as Americans have been spoiled. Many say “Its too hot to go with out air conditioning”
Is it hotter where you live then it is in Danfar? The people in Danfar have no air conditioning. I was talking to someone in Hawaii and she said that hardly anyone there in Hawaii has air conditioning. They all survive.

How have we been doing with out it?

We have been doing fine. I find that after a bit your body starts to adjust to it. I think it is very good to go with out it. It is better for you I believe. I have been doing research on air conditioning and health.

Air conditioning aggravates the effects of arthritis and neuritis. It
also causes trouble for those with sinus trouble, causing their heads
to become blocked. Studies between those who have worked for prolonged periods in air conditioned offices and those who work outdoors, have consistently shown that the people exposed to air conditioning are more susceptible to colds, flu and other minor ailments. It has also been proven that the body undergoes a certain amount of stress when it is forced to go from a boiling hot environment into an air conditioned one. Over time this, too can cause problems.
It is also apparent that those who spend an inordinate amount of time in an air conditioned environment are not able to readily cope with hot summer temperatures. As a result, severe heat waves are now taking a higher death toll. In addition to this many people have been made sick by extreme variances between outside and inside temperatures. Going from an outside temperature of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit to an inside one of less than 78 degrees is, for example, bound to play havoc with one’s health.

Air conditioners in cars also have their problems. Micro-organisms have been found within the units that may cause breathing problems. Researchers at Louisiana State Medical Center identified eight different types of mold living inside of 22 of 25 cars tested. Air conditioning units can also circulate air-borne diseases, most famously Legionairre’s Disease. If the unit has cheap filters or is not properly maintained it will simply recirculate pollutants.

Air-conditioner lung: A form of the sick building syndrome caused by organisms that contaminate humidifiers and the piping of air conditioner ducts. The air conditioner blows cold air containing spores of the organisms throughout the building.

The organisms responsible for air-conditioner lung are the same as cause farmer’s lung which is due to repeated inhalation of dust from hay. (The organisms are thermophilic actinomycetes).

The symptoms of air-conditioner lung include episodes of fever, chills, cough, and shortness of breath, typically occurring 4 to 8 hours after exposure. Loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting may also be present.

The diagnosis of air-conditioner fever is made based on a history of exposure to air conditioning and consistent clinical features, chest x-ray findings, and pulmonary function tests. Confirmation comes from laboratory results showing exposure to thermophilic actinomycetes and other organisms known to cause air-conditioner fever.

Treatment is avoidance of offending organism from the air conditioner. Symptoms usually subside within hours, although complete recovery may take weeks.

Repeated bouts of air-conditioner fever can result in pulmonary fibrosis with cough, fatigue, and weight loss and progression that sometimes requires hospitalization.

How to live with out Air conditioning…..

Use box fans and ceiling fans
    to promote air circulation throughout
    your home.
Opening doors in the house and using box fans to push hot air
outdoors can function as an “exhaust” system and draw cooler evening air
into the house. In the cooler evenings, open all windows and promote as much
    air circulation as possible.

Take advantage of the cooling power of water. Fill buckets or basins and soak your feet. Wet towels and
bandannas can have a cooling effect when worn on the shoulders or head. Take
cool showers or baths, and consider using a spray bottle filled with cold
    water for refreshing spritzes
    throughout the day.

Remember to maintain an adequate level of hydration, which means
you’ll need to consume more water

Avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine, as both of these substances can act as diuretics and promote dehydration

  • Today

Today we walked over 10 miles. I took over 120 beautiful pictures of the fun we had. I won’t share near all of them with you but I will share a few. Enjoy.
If you want to know, see, hear more about our walk and where it is and everything like that, then feel free to visit my husbands site.

  • The Most Unlikely Thing Just Happened

Just in time for InternetIsland The most unlikely thing just happened.
Our fridge/freezer died on Saturday, but looking back I think it may have been going bad for awhile now. It may not have been keeping totally cold for awhile but it was gradual and we didn’t notice. Saturday though it totally died. We didn’t notice it until we came home from church on Saturday night. Not the most pleasant thing to come home to.

Well, we got our new fridge yesterday. Luckily we have our deep freezer because
our fridge/freezer is a tad small compared to regular fridges. I don’t know how
they would have gotten anything much bigger in though. They had to take apart
the old one to get it out. The new one was small enough to come up without
taking it apart. It is 5 feet 1 inch tall. 28 inches wide. 26 inches deep.
Here is pictures of the new one :)
Now I just need to get new food to fill it lol. Luckily the freezer stuff
was still good and was able to be kept in the deep freezer. Its just the fridge
stuff that spoiled. Our milk we kept at my grandmothers but a lot of the other
stuff was spoiled. The milk tastes ok so I think it is fine. The freezer stuff
would have been bad soon too as it was defrosting but still seems ok.

  • prayers and flowers

12:45 over night a cop was shot near my house. There is a man hunt going on
for the shooter. I heard the cops driving around since then.  I remember when
things like this didn’t happen here. Then there was the shooting of the Amish
girls, now this. Please keep this in your prayers.
I will try to send post info later as it comes available. Hopefully they find the guy soon who
    did this.

    update at 6:50am—————————————-

EAST EARL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An East Earl Township, Lancaster County, police
officer was shot around 12:30 a.m.

Police said Officer Greg Yarbough, a six-year veteran, told them he was on
duty when he noticed a suspicious person at his own home.

Yarbough said when he confronted the man, there was a scuffle and Yarbough
was shot with his own gun.

Yarbough is now at Lancaster General Hospital with a non-life threatening
    wound.

They still haven’t found the guy who did it. They did recover the officers
gun in a field. Hard to feel safe knowing the guy is still out here. Trusting in
God to keep us safe but not sure about letting the children outside today.

Will continue to keep you updated as I get info.

    Another update——————————————————————————————–
EAST EARL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An East Earl Township, Lancaster
County, police officer was shot around 12:30 a.m.

  • IMAGES: Shooting
    Scene

Police said Officer Greg Yarbough, a six-year veteran, told them he was
on duty when he noticed a suspicious person outside his own home, which is along
Route 23 near the Shady Maple Smorgasbord.
Yarbough said when he confronted the man, there was a scuffle and
Yarbough was shot with his own gun.
“I don’t know the whole circumstance of how the firearm went off, OK. I
don’t know if the other individual had the officer’s gun or if just in the
struggle the firearm went off. I do not have that information as of this time,”
said Pennsylvania State Trooper Blain Hertzog.
Police said they have recovered the officer’s gun.
Yarbough is now at Lancaster General Hospital with a non-life-threatening
wound. Officials would not say where he had been shot.
The only description that police described of the individual Yarbough
scuffled with is that he was a man dressed in black.
Police appear to be scaling back their search in the area. The police
mobile command unit left the scene around 6:30 a.m., and many roads that were
shut down early this morning have reopened.

  • Pictures in the Mirror

Everyone always like to see what the person they are talking to looks like.
Well, I normally tend to be the one taking the pictures. So I thought today I
would try to take a picture of myself in the mirror (harder then it sounds lol)
    here is the result.
