    Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed

    Alas! and did my Savior bleed,
    and did my Sovereign die!
    Would he devote that sacred head
    for sinners such as I?

    Was it for crimes that I have done,
    he groaned upon the tree?
    Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
    And love beyond degree!

    Well might the sun in darkness hide,
    and shut its glories in,
    when God, the mighty maker, died
    for his own creature's sin.

    Thus might I hide my blushing face
    while his dear cross appears;
    dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
    and melt mine eyes to tears.

    But drops of tears can ne'er repay
    the debt of love I owe.
    Here, Lord, I give myself away;
    'tis all that I can do.

    When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

    When I survey the wondrous cross
    on which the Prince of Glory died;
    my richest gain I count but loss,
    and pour contempt on all my pride.

    Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
    save in the death of Christ, my God;
    all the vain things that charm me most,
    I sacrifice them to his blood.

    See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
    sorrow and love flow mingled down.
    Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
    or thorns compose so rich a crown.

    Were the whole realm of nature mine,
    that were an offering far too small;
    love so amazing, so divine,
    demands my soul, my life, my all.

  • I LOVE those hymns!!!  o/

    Praising God for His cross!  Without that amazing, selfless, perfect act, we’re lost and left to our own demise.  I rejoice in the FINISHED work of Christ Jesus our Savior and glory in the love of our Redeemer!

    It completely blows me away that He SAW His disciples forsake Him, He was mocked, disdained, rejected… they were all around Him.  When Peter denied Him three times, the rooster crowed, Jesus looked AT Peter, and Peter fled.  It was FOR THESE HE DIED!  While we were YET sinners, Christ died for us.  Even in those hours of intense rejection and utter disdain by those around Him, HE DECLARED.. FATHER FORGIVE THEM… and… IT IS FINISHED!

    What perfect love is witnessed at the cross.  Even today, thinking of my own imperfect love, how I cling to His glorious grace, for apart from it, I’m nothing more than a rotting corpse.

  • Jesus paid the price in order for us to be saved. He set us free from our sins. How great is the love of the Lord for us! Let us thank Him for the gift of salvation. The cross is a reminder of His never-ending love.. a perfect love. His love for us is strong and His faithfulness is eternal. God bless! =)
