My two cents on the FLDS case in TX
They
have to give the children back because they are NOT finding child brides. Some
that they were trying to claim as children are as old as 27.
Another girl listed as an underage mother is 14, but the state has
conceded she is not pregnant and does not have a child. They went in on a hoax phone call.
It is just like Wacco was… No proof and government strong arming. luckily no one was killed yet with this one.
I think the FLDS would have a great case for suing TX for religious persecution and civil rights violations.

I totally agree. I have been upset about this from the beginning. Whether I believe in the religion they choose to practice or not is beside the point…it was just wrong on so many levels. And not only do I think it was so cruel of them to take them away from that compound instead of making the men leave, I hated the way the media was turning this around. They were bascially persecuting them for believing what they believe…making them seem like the sick ones because the chlidren were sheltered and not exposed to all the crap(excuse me) that our kids are exposed to on a daily basis…as if somehow this society is better for them. Please…I still get angry. I still don’t know why the media chose to do that and make fun of them practically all because of their religion. It’s just wrong wrong wrong and last I checked, it still is the United States of America where freedom of religion is allowed. Now the only thing the state did was cause unnecesarry psychological harm to those kids, and make the average American who just gets all their info about worldy matters from cnn or fox, hate that religion or pass judgement on them.
So sad…the only, and I mean ONLY good thing I can see about this was IF and I stress IF pedophelia was taking place, then now it’s not..other than that? Just judgement…public humiliation, ridicule, and cruelty concerning the kids all because some people are SCARED of a certain religion that they are compltely ignorant about. (in the definition sense)…people should educate themselves and stop judging others who don’t think like them. I think our society has gone so far off course and now anything and everything immoral is now accepted or looked over as something normal. And now..those who choose to put God first, those who choose to try and live a just life the way it SHOULD be(I’m talking about without all the outside influences) and those women who choose to cover are all being made out to be the sick ones..the crazy ones…??? I don’t get it? Isn’t this one of the signs of the last day?
Sorry for writing so much…this topic just makes me angry. I might find an old blog I wrote about this right after it happened and post it…and then update it.
ANyway, thanks for letting me vent here lol
Take care…and God bless!!
I think it’s interesting. While I do believe their practices are scripturally incorrect and DOES put young girls at risk, patterning them to plural marriage and a false doctrine, that can’t really be coined as “abuse.” I’m annoyed with the false information the state released initially in order to gain a favorable public opinion. That happens WAY too often and there should be a consequence for it… like a slander charge or something.
I will be praying for those within the group, that the truth of the Gospel might reach their hearts, and that God will heal the hurt of these most recent difficult days. I DO believe in a Sovereign God and perhaps, PERHAPS He allowed this so some of those young women might be able to be exposed to Truth. Wouldn’t that be incredible? Even if it’s just one? I think of Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
Maybe one of those girls is called!!
Thanks for the update.
Thank you… for remembering. For caring. Anyone that’s read my site for a while knows… I care deeply about “Waco.” The FLDS fiasco… is a wonderful case study in federal intervention vs. states’ rights. If the federal government had handled this, as they did fifteen years ago in Waco – we would be looking at a vastly different outcome. What the state of Texas did to the FLDS community was wrong – but at least they were allowed to have a court hearing. The federal government took even that from the Branch Davidians. I had tears of joy, and hope, in my eyes when the court ruling was announced yesterday. This time, there will be justice. This time, it will not end in tragedy. And for those people, life will go on. It is amazing…
While I believe that the government should not be allowed to enter a private compound without just cause, I do think someone needs to look out for the well being of the children. The two cases you listed may be the exceptions. Would you feel differently if there really were 20 or pregnant girls under 17 living on the compound?
If our government allows same sex marriages without arrest, I have to question the arrest of multiple partner marriages. In my opinion, neither is right – but our government legislation is deteriorating rapidly into scary territory. Sorry – that’s the law student coming out of me.
What also upset me, that hasn’t really been mentioned as much, is the fact the women and girls were criticized for dressing like pioneers and that seemed to be offensive to the public as well as their polygamy style of life. Gads! If they start arresting people who dress like pioneers and wear “old fashioned” long hair up in a bun, I could be arrested and held in jail next!
I agree they should have gone about it differently, but what they are doing is still illigel and should be stopped. But I do not know how do stop that with out hurting the children. It is not there fult they have someone who is stretching the Bible to fit his wants and needs!
@cherylyn_p - I understand what you are saying, but I dont look at this from a wordly view. A sin is a sin and both of those are and can not condone either of them. The bible say it is only going to get worse not better. I just hate that the man who is using the Bible to suit his needs has all of the people decieved.
It is simply another case of the state trying to run the family. I am all for taking care of the children of abuse. BUT it doesn’t take much these days to be accused of it and a great deal to prove yourself innocent. It used to be the opposite.
The Salt Lake Deseret News has been doing a great job covering this story. They may be wack-job weirdos, but way too much of what has been going on has not passed the smell test. If they can do this to them, who’s next? The Amish as a bit weird too.
