  • My daughter Cried

My 7 year old daughter cried this morning. Why you may ask….because Obama won the election.

We don’t talk a lot about politics in our home but they were talking a lot about it in school. They even had a “school election” and McCain won.

My daughter wanted McCain to win sooo bad.

She was so upset. We reminded her that God is in control. We also let her know that Obama is who we will have to follow and pray for if we wanted him to win or not. UNLESS he tells us to go against something God says.

  • Yes, He is. And I wonder what message He’s sending us?

  • That is a good response you gave to your daughter.

  • Awwww, that is sad.  But you gave your daughter a wonderful response.

  • That’s a very good point, God is in control.  I told my daughter’s (age 7 and 10) something similar this morning, that whether we approve of the man elected, he will be our next president, and we now need to pray for him.  We don’t have to worry though, because we don’t put our faith in man, but in God, and God is in control! :)

  • Thanks for adding me to your friends! :)

  • That is pretty much the same thing we told our daughter. We want her to respect the office of president even if we do not agree with him.

  • that was such a good response you give to your daughter =)

  • My 7 year old son got up this morning and when he looked at the TV (I had fox news on but was in the other room) my son looks at me with a sad face saying, “ow, mommy Obama won.  I really wanted McCain to win.”  He was really sad but simular to what you said I said to him.  I told him he is our President and we must respect his position and support him through these tough times.

He’s going to have a challenge with everything going on.  It will be very interesting to see how he handles things in the coming year.  I hope God gives him the knowledge and strength to get us through.

  • Bless her heart.  And the response you gave her was perfect.

  • I also cried no joke.

  • It is very confusing for kids

  • Well said. I about cried because he won :( .

  • How sad! You responded well! I subbed today and I heard one of the students making fun of a staff member for voting for McCain. I stood up for her and told them that I also voted for McCain. I told them we all had the right to our opinions. I also let the students know that while the person we voted for didn’t win we needed to show respect. The kid asked me if I was rich voting for McCain. I told him no I couldn’t justify voting for Obama because of some of his stances on issues.
