  • What Name????

What name do you use when talking/blogging about God? and Why?

Do you use God, which can be universal term and is used by many religions to speak of their god? When people say that they follow god do you ever wonder which one? Do you just assume that they speak of the God of the Bible? Do you just assume they are Christian?

What term do you use? Lord is not a name for the God of the bible it is just a title.

There are many names people use….here are a few:

God - is a deity in theist and deist religions and other belief systems. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, the Bahá’í Faith, and Judaism, the term “god” remains an English translation common to all.

Lord - Lord is a title with various meanings. It can denote a prince or a feudal superior. In religious contexts Lord can also refer to various different gods or deities.

YHWH (many variations) – Yahweh is the English rendering of יַהְוֶה, a vocalization of the Tetragrammaton
The Hebrew term יהוה had been vocalized as יְהֹוָה (YeHoWah/JeHoVaH) … Many modern Jews will not say this name out loud. Instead of pronouncing YHWH during prayer, Jews say Adonai.

    Adonai -Hebrew for “Lord”

HaShem – It is common Jewish practice to restrict the use of the word Adonai to prayer only. In conversation, many Jewish people, even when not speaking Hebrew, will call God “Hashem”, which is Hebrew for “the Name” (this appears in Leviticus 24:11).

Elohim - is a Hebrew word which expresses concepts of divinity.

Other – there are others not mentioned above.

    What do you use??

Blessed is the Lord the God of Israel

So let the nations sing and praise Him
    And Israel will say amen

    And Israel will say amen

    And Israel will say

When the shout of the Lord is in our camp
    It’s the sound of victory
For the power of His voice will rout the enemy
There’s no weapon that can defeat us here
We will triumph on every side
More than conquerors through the might of Adonai
Through the walls may stand before us
Hem us in on every side
    They come crashing down
    When they hear the sound
Of the name above all others

  • Yahweh Yireh – The Lord Will Provide

Yahweh Yireh (Jehovah-jireh) – The Lord Will Provide – The Lord who sees

Genesis 22:13-14 KJV  And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.  (14)  And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

He is the L-rd who sees our need beforehand and provides for us in every situation.  What a comfort to know that G-d can and will provide for you because He has seen and knows your need far before you even knew you had one!

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  (6)  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

We can cast all our cares on Him.

Matthew 10:29-31 KJV  Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  (30)  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  (31)  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:24-31 KJV  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?  (25)  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?  (26)  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?  (27)  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  (28)  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?  (29)  And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.  (30)  For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.  (31)  But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Yahweh Yireh will see to it! He will not fail in his word.

Pray first before you do anything. Trust in G-d. He will provide.

    He is Jehovah Jireh
He will supply all your needs
    He is never late
    He never forgets
    He never fails

  • The Name

    HaShem means “the name”.

“HaShem” – It is the way that some (many Jews and some Christian’s) refer to G-d when not in a Prayer or Bible Reading or Bible context.

The first use, of HaShem, is in:

Bereshit (Genesis) 2:4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When HaShem God made the earth and the heavens–

HaShem means “self existent” or “eternal”, according to Strong’s (3068).

Shemot (Exodus) 20:7 “You shall not misuse the name of HaShem your God, for HaShem will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 5:11 “You shall not misuse the name of HaShem your God, for HaShem will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

In the NIV, KJV, and the Jerusalem Bibles they use “L-RD” instead of HaShem. The NASB uses “L-rd” instead of HaShem.

Tehillim (Psalms) 9:9-10 HaShem is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, HaShem, have never forsaken those who seek you.

G-d’s name is associated with His glory, holiness and power. To call on His name is to call on His presence.

When we pray to HaShem, we are praying to the G-d who dwells in our midst, hearing and answering our prayers.

Yeshayah (Isaiah) 43:1-3 But now, this is what HaShem says–he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am HaShem, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.

    Shalom
