  • any idea how old the laws in each of those states are?  also, is there any record of anyone being fired form any one of those states for being gay?

  • @buddy71 - I know of a company in Pa that fired a worker when they found out he was gay

  • I find this misleading at best.  To slant it to the other extreme, “the states in grey have laws that destroy marriages”.  Most states operate within the bound of “at-will” employment where either side can terminate the employment relationship for “good cause, bad cause, or no cause”.  Those states in red… you could be fired for having green hair…. or because they pulled names out of a hat on a whim.  There are a few protected exceptions- if sexual orientation should be on that list remains to be seen.  That said, employment best practices say treat all your employees with dignity and respect- but who says employers aren’t stupid?  The thing that so amazes me with employment discrimination law- you can be fairly stupid as long as you are stupid fairly.

  • that is horrible. shame shame.

  • Actually, in any state you can be fired “at will” without being given a reason unless you have a contract that requires it.

  • @dingus6 - Montana is an exception to the at-will  law, state law dictates you must be fired for cause even without a contract.  – http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/mca_toc/39_2_9.htm-

  • @Ro_ad808 - I stand corrected.

  • It is quite shocking to note this. If it is true then one can’t be secure in more than half of the countries of the world.Andrew Pier Blog
