What is it with politicians and willful ignorance about sexual topics?
What is it with politicians and willful ignorance about sexual topics?
Tennessee state Sen. Stacey Campfield (R) falsely claimed that it was nearly impossible for someone to contract AIDS through heterosexual contact. (Try telling that to the thousands of people in Africa who got HIV from hetero sex. )
“Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community,” he told Michelangelo Signorile, who hosts a radio program on SiriusXM OutQ. “It was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall.”
“My understanding is that it is virtually — not completely, but virtually — impossible to contract AIDS through heterosexual sex.”
A shining example of what the Republican party has to offer the people of the United States. Kiddies, is what happens when politics becomes faith-based.
The stupid, it hurts. Every day I just read more and more stories and go, "we don't have a chance as a nation, do we?"

Wha? Dang...I don't think it's too much to expect basic science literacy out of our elected representatives.
I should expect nothing less out of the Republican party. They should be called the GOB, that is, the "Grand Old Bigots."
"It was one guy screwing a monkey"...to me that pretty much sounds like bestiality was the beginning of AIDS. I guess I have to thank the republican bigot for presenting me an argument that I didn't know before. I'll look that up. That makes my day.
Yes indeed, stupid hurts. Religion can do strange and unpredictable things to weak thinkers. I only hope idiots like that don't get elected by other idiots. *SHUDDERS*
Chuckleheads like this are what make Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale look not that far off and make me want to prepare to expatriate "just in case." As usual, there's a nugget of truth in the crap. He's thinking of Gaetan Dugas and the old Patient Zero theory, which no one really believes anymore, and taking what suits him from it.
This is just adding to the list of reasons why my partner and I don't really want to raise a child in America. We're pretty sure we'll expatriate sometime in the near future.
it's why many of them want to cut education, cut student grants, dismantle the Board of Education. when someone's beliefs don't hold up against facts and science the tactics become lie and denounce science. as of Tuesday Romney and Ryan told 14 policy lies since Romney picked Ryan as his running mate only a week and a half earlier. their policies don't add up so they lie. btw Romney promised to dismantle the Board of Education if elected.
@forever_musing - you already took a turn in Hell. Don't put yourself back there with childrens too soon. Now it's "their" turn. With 7 billion people on the planet, children are unnecessary. I don't care what they say. If you do well in life, you can always adopt when you're in your 30s and 40s.
Anyway, I don't pay attention to "them." They are mildly entertaining to most people, but they became boring to me. That's all they are there for really, the show.
Hold on to your hat and listen: Because Eurocentric folks survived the Bubonic plague/black death. they are a tougher breed of humans . Thus homosexual activity like anal sex will cause lessions which permits hiv/aids to enter into the body.
Africans in Africa are expose to other strains of Aids/Hiv and in addition their immune system is sort of compromised due to malnutrition and other diseases. Thus heterosexuals do catch Aid/hiv and it is the women who are the last to know they have Aids/hiv
Asians also don't have that much of Aids/hiv immunity so there is heterosexuals that also catch Aids/hiv.
---------------------------------------------------------How many blacks believe that Magic Johnson caught Aids/Hiv via heterosexual contact? Someone must have being going down low.....
The politics of preventing Aids/Hiv had to claim that heterosexuals can catch Aids/hiv. I am sure introvenous drug users would like to hide under the banner that says heterosexuals can catch aids.
Even some of the gay community kind of held to the claim that gays that used "poppers" were the ones who caught aids?Hiv. In a way drugs do compromise infection fighting ability.
What we need to do is limit campaign donations to five dollars per individual and forbid all contributions from organizations and all contributions that cannot be traced. Then these faithfools will be gone in no seconds flat.
Well, between the Aids, and the rape comments, and then ~every~ news site I went to today has how the strip clubs in Tampa are all gearing up for the RNC... I guess, no, we really don't have a chance as a nation.
He doesn't need to know anything. He has a degree.
Darn monkeys!
Seriously. Who votes for these dolts? I can't help but wonder if the majority is really this stupid.
@AnonymousXGrl - unfortunately they are. That is why my trust in democracy is not very good.
