Normal
At Building_a_mystery’s page we are all having a discussion on normal. what is normal? Do we do things just because they are the normal thing to do?
Building_A_Mystery said “In certain Islamic nations, young girls are routinely subjected to genital mutilation. This violent and dangerous practice is often carried out on girls ten or twelve years of age, against their will, without anesthetizing agents and often without sterile instruments. Is this “normal” simply because it is common?”I would like to add that also in America newborn baby boys are subjected to the same type of horror in What the United States considers Infant Circumcision. Did you know that the United States is the only contry that subjects its infants to this as a normal part of life. People in the united states though consider this normal and the thing to do. To put their poor boys through this horror.

Do you want to put your child at risk…?
Please learn the TRUTHThere are 23 medically advanced nations. The U.S. is the only nation which routinely circumcises nearly 63% of its newborn males. Our country represents less than 1/20th of the world population, yet it performs more than half of all infant circumcisions worldwide. If the foreskin is so prone to problems, why haven’t other advanced nations adopted routine circumcision? One can’t help but wonder why the U.S. is the only medically advanced nation that performs routine infant circumcisions without any medical indication.
Routine Infant Circumcision is limited to English speaking countries. The practice was intoduced to the U.S. through England, but they abandoned it nearly 50 years ago, practicing it now at the rate of only 1%. The rate is 3% in New Zealand, 10% in Australia and 20% to 25% in Canada. RIC is not offered in most non-English speaking countries. It never caught on in Europe, Asia, South or Central America. If the majority of men elsewhere in the world were having medical problems because their penises were left intact, wouldn’t these countries begin the practice?
Of the world’s male population, the breakdown of the circumcised and intact are:
79 million American infant circs
9 million American child or adult circs
13 million Canada, UK, New Zealand & Australia infant circs
27 million rest of world infant circs
44 million child or adult circs other parts of world
315 million Muslim child/adolescent circumcisions487 million = TOTAL MEN CIRCUMCISED WORLDWIDE (18%)
2 billion 160 million = TOTAL MEN INTACT WORLDWIDE (82%)2 billion 647 million = Total Men Living Worldwide
———————————————————————————————–
Out of the Worldwide Total of 487 Million Circumcised Men:
65% occur as Muslim cultural circumcisions
15% occur in other countries
3% occur in other English speaking countries
17% occur in the U.S.

I had my son circumcised because God commanded it, not because it’s the “normal” thing to do. Plus, if I have any more sons, they will be circumcised also. I don’t know what bible you read, but I read mine and it says to circumcise.
Actually the bible doesnt say you have to circ. Read the new testament.
“For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Now I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is bound to keep the whole law. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we can wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love.” Galatians 5:1-6
“It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God.” Galatians 6:12-16.
“Look out for the dogs, look out for the evil-workers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. For we are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit, and glory in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh.” Philippians 3:2-3.
This was nearly 2,000 years ago. Throughout most of history, and in most parts of the world today, Christians are rarely circumcised. In many cultures, people are often not even aware of what circumcision is.
What does modern medical circumcision have to do with the Bible?
Nothing. The medical practice of infant circumcision came about in the late 1800′s, for a number of spurious, superstitious reasons. Some people believed that it would prevent masturbation, or a number of other possible diseases. All of these suppositions have long been proven invalid.
While the medical profession provides a needed function in society, and most medical practitioners are hard-working individuals deserving much respect, the medical profession in many people’s eyes has become a type of idolatry. We treat hospitals like “sacred temples” and have turned doctors into false “gods.”
Just as many people believe that birth has to take place in a hospital, we have come to believe that the newborn infant must go through a number of rituals and ablutions to be “official” and survive in society. Weighing, measuring, putting ointment in the eyes, washing the baby, putting on identification bands, putting him in a special warming crib, bundling him in blankets, and keeping him in the hospital nursery are all hospital rituals imposed upon the newborn. How different are we from the primitive who believes that his illness will be cured from his Shaman shaking rattles and dancing? In this respect, infant circumcision in hospitals has become a “ritual” of its own accord — a product of our tendency to regard all medical practices as “sacred.”
The Christian is especially admonished not to make anything into a false religion – not even things that are necessary or beneficial in and of themselves. We are to worship only the Lord our God. To give the medical profession, or anything else, any kind of undue worship is going against basic Christian beliefs.
Too often in the eyes of the rest of society, many non-Christians appear to be much more loving, compassionate, gentle, and concerned about the welfare of children (or about a number of other social concerns) than do most Christians. The non-believer often sees hypocrisy and feels repulsion at the idea of identifying with such people when Christians present themselves as unloving, uncompassionate, uncaring, narrow-minded, cruel, and unyielding. Christians must always remember that when we present ourselves to the world by our actions and attitudes, we are showing them Jesus, and of course, Jesus never hurt a child in any way.
Of additional concern is that of inner personal strength and self-acceptance. Some parents have their sons circumcised because “everyone else does” – although this argument is considerably less strong today as increasing numbers of parents are leaving their sons intact. Some parents have intentionally chosen to leave their sons intact specifically because they firmly believe in “not following the herd” and wish to teach their children the value of not succumbing to mindless conformity. In an age of dangerous fads and peer pressure and rampant drug abuse, this can be an essential survival skill.
Many of us who voice concern over routine infant circumcision have been wishing for an organized voice from the Christian world speaking out against genital mutilation. Christian apathy to this issue can only be considered a public embarrassment. If our Christian ideals of love, gentleness, peace, and following the Golden Rule cannot begin with our own children, how relevant can they be to the rest of the world?
I would also like to add that most Amish and Most of the Charity church do not circ their children either. They have their children at home with a midwife present and leave their childs private parts alone. My aunt who is a midwife for the Charity church, all her children are intact.

The Bible? Nope, it doesn’t say you “have” to do anything. That’s what Free Will is about, remember that? Then again, if we had just listened to God and not allowed same-sex relationships and practiced sanitation with blood and body fluids we wouldn’t have things like AIDS in the first place. Looks like science is now proving He was smarter than us all along.
Actually AIDS didnt start from same-sex relationships. It started with a transplant from a baboon. But thats a totally different subject.
No you don’t “have” to circumcise. However, it is my conviction to do so. I do not wish to judge anyone who chooses not to, that is their choice, but don’t judge me because I chose to circumcise my son. Jesus was circumcised.
I would agree that before we say a lot of bad things about circumcision, we must remember that it was God himself who made this up. And usually the things like this that he asked us to do, had reasons behind it. Lots of times, it is common sense medical reasons. It’s no secret that women who’s husbands are circumcised have less yeast infections. And I read in the paper the other day that men who are circumcised are less likely to pass along AIDS.
I have to wonder why some people get so upset over this particular thing that, like I said, God made up, and I am sure had a reason for it. No, it is not a religiously mandated thing anymore. But I think it mostly makes good common sense. When I had my son Beau at home, I waited until the eighth day to have him circumcised. The nurse told me that they didn’t hold to something like that, but I said, well, it’s my preference, so I’d like to wait that long. When the doctor, who DID use a painkiller to do it, brought me my baby back, he said, “You know, there may be something to this waiting a few days. He hardly bled at all, and it was just easier all the way around.”
I think it’s a personal choice for parents to make for their children, I have no desire to read a bunch of stuff on the internet about a small operation that God himself made up. I don’t believe it’s anything to get radical about. The Lord leaves it up to us now, just like he leaves eating shellfish and pork up to us, but we do know that those things are more likely to make us sick than ‘clean meats’.
I’d like to add one more comment, and that’s that anything the Lord ever did, was “good”. So I don’t think it’s right to make an overly big deal about circumsion. He NEVER, NEVER required it of women. I agree that that is a horrible thing to do, and causes many medical problems for the women.
But for the Jews, this is to be an “everlasting covenant”. Therefore, it would seem to me that it is still required of them? Look at Genesis 17:9-14

Here are some results from circumcision – before you go through with it, at least educate yourself on the possible side-effects then decide is it still worth it???
okay have to weigh in here, jesus was circumcised because he was jewish. and in the old testament it was commanded by god to do so. not that i buy into the whole god commanding anything really, but since i am married to an isreali, it is part of the jewish culture and an important part of the religious beliefs, so our male children will be circumsized.
and a side note about the aids thing. i wish i could remember the name of the guy, but i watched this presentation from a man who worked for the gov creating biological weapons and virus and his evidence showed the the aids virus would have come more likely from the virus that exists in cows and sheep as it was only a marker or two away from the original virus found in humans where as the one in the monkey was like 20 markers away, too much for a single evolutionary leap to make the jump to people, but since we routinely use cows to get vaccines… like small pox it is more logical that the leap to people came from that direction. he also went in to show how it could be created in a lab and the cact that shortly after he did this lecture he was found shot in the head makes me think more on the gov side.
Found this post through boost. I definitely know someone to give this link to. . .(whose interested in this topic herself)
Circumcision = Bad bad bad!

Well, if you don’t circumcise your son and he wants it THAT bad, then you know years later he can always get it! But if you circumcise him. . .(and as an infant after birth, that’s giving a very bad painful experience to a baby that will cry at ANYTHING) then it’s kinda hard to take that back. . .
easier to go from uncircumcision to being circumcised . .then the other way around.
The penis decisions should be left up to HIM, since it’s not like he’s in dire critical condition if you don’t snip away the front part of his penus. Sure it’s skin. . .but I like to think the skin is there to protect. . .
AND it supposedly gives more fraction during sex?
: )
one. im not religious.
two. if i had a son, i would get him circumcized..
because men who are, are less likely to get hiv
three. how come god wants men to hack their penises?
personally.. i do not see the point in it..
(exept for the medical ones)
and.. the last thing that pacifpleas said..
