What would you have done?
This happened this past week….My husband was over paid by his work 11 1/2 hours of overtime. He went and let them know and they are taking it out of his next paycheck. It was a mistake that no one would have most likely ever have noticed. He was honest though and went and told them and they will fix it. I know that many people would not have been that honest and would have just kept it. I am lucky to have such an wonderful honest husband. God will bless him for him honesty.
What would you have done? Would you have kept the money (no one would have known) or would you have told them and got it fixed?

I would’ve told too even if i had wanted to keep the money my conscience would get the best of me!!!
i would have told… i am honest…
I would have done the same thing. Even if nobody here saw it, God saw it. A clean conscience is a wonderful thing!
Good for your hubby for doing the right thing!
I would have told too. But honestly I may have not even noticed. Is that bad? A lot of the time I have soo much going on that I don’t get a chance to double check my pay stub, I just check to see if its in the range I normally get paid, ya know? I usually work 40 hours a week, but sometimes that can vary from 35, 38.. you get the point. But thats really good that your husband was honest. God will bless him! I remember one time I was walking out of the grocery store and a man in front of me dropped a $20 bill and just kept walking. I picked it up and chased after him yelling “Sir” but he just kind of ignored me. Finally I said “Sir, you dropped some money” Then he turned around lOl.
Praise God for your awesome husband! I would have done the same thing and so would my husband.
I would’ve told, too.
of course I would have told….
I would have told. I think that a lot more people than you think would let their boss know. If not for moral reasons, for the fact that if they got caught… it would be bad. But in the long run… I don’t think many people could live with stealing. A lot of people could… but not everyone.
I would love to say that I would’ve done the same, but none of us knows for sure until he, she is put in the position.
What your husband did was admirable.
Kudos!!!
I would have told them.
I would have told but wouldn’t it have been caught eventually? Time sheet wouldn’t have matched the hours paid?
@elainef - the person who does payroll only works 3 days a week. The time cards are punched in a machine and then payroll is done by hand.
Barry was scheduled to work that friday 4:00pm til 4:30am but mike called off so Barry had to go home at 4:30pm because the machine takes the two of them to run it. So when the lady was doing payroll she took it as 4pm – 4:30am like schedualed instead of 4pm – 4:30pm
Barry actually had to go over it a few times with her until she agreed that she had made a mistaked lol. Then she saw what she had done wrong, but if he had not said something she never would have went back and caught it.
Makes sense.LOL! My head actually hurt for a minute until I re-read it.
I would’ve told them. Similar thing happened to me my first semester of college… A professor gave me a grade for an assignment I didn’t do (I think I forgot or didn’t understand when it was due or something like that). Anyway, I caught it toward the end of the semester, and even though without those points I probably wouldn’t have made the grade I was hoping for, I sent my professor an email telling him that I didn’t do that assignment. He ended up letting me keep the points since I was honest about it!
God Bless,
Chris
P.S. I’m doing great! thanks for your concern.
No doubt that I would have brought it to their attention since I would probably have noticed that the pay was more then usual!
There would had been no second thinking for me are my husband we would had done the same thing your hubby done, You are a special family and God Blessing be with you all,
sandy
You did the right thing and God saw it.
I would have told … last Thursday a friend and I went out for lunch. When we got the bill, Clare noticed that we were not charged for 2 desserts, so she pointed it out to the waiter. He was pleased with our honesty … came back and said that one dessert was ‘on the house’ because of our honesty. God sees regardless whether we’re honest or not….better to be HONEST. ~Carolyn
I would have told. I believe that God blesses honesty. I think it also shows a good Christian testimony to your husband’s boss that he is an honest man.
I would have told for sure. As would my non-Christian husband.

I sometimes do payroll, so at the end of the day, it would have been my mistake, and it would have been a big mess
If it was me on the other end, I would have said something too
One Christmas, I found a wallet sitting on the table full of cash. Inside had a photo of his family. My friend was like lets keep it, we could buy stuff.
I went to the front desk and asked them to make an announcement for me, and the guy came, all upset, and so thankfull
Turns out this was the guys holiday pay that he was getting his christmas laybys out for his kids, and I know I did the right thing
Honestly, I doubt that I would have caught something like that. If I did, I would like to think that I would have pointed out the mistake. That said, if the person who does the payroll argued with me about it, I don’t know that I would have pressed the issue. I mean, I don’t know if it’s my job to to spend 15 minutes arguing with someone about overpaying me.
Because my pay when I was working always varied due to the amount of over time I use to do and the way the weeks would fall I honestly would not have even noticed. BUT if my pay was consistant each week I would have certainly noticed and would have said something.
I couldn’t sleep at night knowing that this error happened and eventually at some point it’s going to bit you in the rear in some shape or form!
God bless your husband for being the honest man that he is.
Christine
I have to disagree with the statement that no one can know for sure what they would do. I KNOW what I would do and that would be to tell them. To know that they over paid and not say anything is stealing. Stealing is WRONG and I WOULD not do it. I don’t HAVE to be confronted with it to know that I would not steal.
I would have told IF I had actually checked. I’m really bad about checking my hours! Unless it is a big mistake I’d probably not have noticed. LOL!
I would and did tell before . God bless !
I would have told definitely. And I would have noticed too because I always double check my paychecks for this very reason. God will provide in another way for his honesty!
Report it. No brainer.
I hope I marry someone as honest as your husband.
hmmm prob would have told them.
I was once paid for 4 weeks! BIG error, I almost had to fight to get them to fix it…
I would have pointed out the error…
I would have reported it, too, but unfortunately, my job wouldn’t have been able to rectify the situation.
And that would have been fine with me!
I have actually had to report over-payment to more than one company I’ve worked for.
