If it isn’t, It should be illegal to burn trash at 1am.
I am wide awake. I woke up 1:10am and smelled smoke. I jumped out of bed
and went in search of what was burning. I was going room to room heart racing
but I couldn’t see any smoke anywhere.
Finally I realized the smell is coming from outside. Someone is burring
trash near here at 1am.
The worst thing is this isn’t the first time this has happened. About two
weeks ago someone was burning trash at 11pm.
It should be illegal to burn trash in the middle of the night. I will now
be awake for a long time because it scared me.
Who burns trash at 1am????

Do you live in the country? Where I live, if you live in the city limits, you have to get a burn permit to burn anything, but if you live outside the city limits, you don’t need one. Burning stuff at 1am though…that sounds like frat boys to me (I live next to a frat house, and they pulled all their furniture outside once and set it on fire during one of their parties).
@hubbaduh - We live in the country. No frat houses around here. No need for burn permits either, but there is a no burning on Sunday law and I think a Dawn til dusk law that you aren’t supposed to burn trash when it’s night.
I would imagine that there’s a dusk till dawn law, at least without a special permit. You could always call the sheriff’s department and report them.
Maybe they we having a camp fire or cookout thus explaining the lateness.
I understand the scared feeling, I have also woke up at night smelling smoke, after searching discovered we had nothing to do with it…freaky feeling!

I would have called the fire dept and reported something burning.
UGH! Some people just don’t think or consider their actions and how they affect others. Hope you got some sleep!
That would’ve scared the crap out of me, too!! (As it was, I woke up several times to the sound of running water — there’s a spigot right outside my bedroom window — and it took me a while to figure out that it was just the pump for my swamp cooler! But like you, it screwed up the rest of my sleep!)
