How can people call themselves Christians and not believe in the bible as the word of God?
(Before I start I just want to say happy birthday again to my little preemie growing up so fast)
I have been reading stuff on Revlife recently, You know Xanga’s supposedly Christian form. And there is a big problem I am noticing, and I am not talking about all the non Christians who like to use the form to disagree with the Christian’s. I am talking about the people who call themselves Christian’s and comment on there and defend stuff the bible talks about as sins, all because they do not believe the bible is the HOLY WORD OF GOD.
I do not understand. How can you be (or call yourself) a Christian and not believe the bible?
To undermine, discredit and reject the Bible is to undermine, discredit and reject Christianity.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
It was written over 1600 years, over 60 generations, by more than 40 authors, on three different continents, in different circumstances and places, in different times, different moods, in three languages, concerning scores of controversial subjects, but it speaks with one united voice.
There are at least 332 distinct Old Testament predictions regarding the Messiah which Jesus fulfilled perfectly (such as His birth in Bethlehem, His emergence from Egypt, His healing of the sick, His death on the cross, and so forth). Collectively, the combination of this evidence together is absolutely overwhelming.
Peter Stoner wrote a book called Science Speaks (Moody Press, 1963), that applies the science of probability to the prophesies of Jesus.
First, Stoner looks at just eight of the prophecies and considers the probability of just these being fulfilled by one man. (from Evidence That Demands A Verdict… pg.174-176)
1) Being born in Bethlehem (Mic.5:2)
2) Preceded by a messenger (Is.40:3)
3) Entering Jerusalem on a donkey (Zec 9:9)
4) Betrayed by a friend (Ps.41:9)
5) Sold for 30 pieces of silver (Zec 11:12)
6) Money thrown in the temple, buying a potter’s field (Zech 11:13)
7) Dumb before accusers (Is.53:7)
8) Hands and feet pierced, crucified with thieves (Ps.22:16; Is.53:12)
Stoner concludes that the odds of any man that might have lived down to the present time fulfilling all eight of these prophecies are 1 in 10 to the 17th power. That’s a one with seventeen zeroes after it!
To grasp the size of this number …
“Suppose we take 10 to the 17th power silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover all of the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly, all over the state. Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel as far as he wished, but he must pick up one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man, from their day to the present time, providing they wrote them in their own wisdom.”
But keep in mind, that’s with only EIGHT of the prophecies! Don’t forget that there were over 300 prophecies concerning JesusTo reject the Bible is to reject the God of the Bible. To reject God is to reject the Commandments of God. To reject the Commandments of God is to reject the Authority of Heaven. To reject the authority of heaven is to accept the Anarchy of Hell.
“WILL THE OLD BOOK STAND?”
Will the Old Book stand, when the “higher critics” state
That grave errors are discovered on its page?
Will it save the sinful soul? Will it make the wounded whole?
Will its glorious truth abide from age to age? Will its message still abide, when the scientists decide
That its record of Creation is untrue?
Tell us the ascent of man is by evolution’s plan;
Will its principles the sinful heart renew? When in language wondrous fair, “Christian Scientists” declare
That there is no evil, only mortal mind.
When mental treatment fails, and seeming death prevails,
May we in the Bible consolation find? When infidels parade the mistakes which Moses made,
When the truth of Revelation they deny,
Will the Ten Commandments still the demands of justice fill?
Will its word support us when we come to die?Yes, the Word of God shall stand, though assailed on every hand,
Its foundations are eternally secure;
It will bear the critic’s test, and the idle scoffer’s jest,
Its saving truth forever shall endure.
Can someone please explain to me how a person can call themselves a Christian but yet not believe in the bible as the WHOLE (that all of it is) word of God.

education.
you rock by the way.
keep rockin.
Because they carry the faith, instead of the faith carrying them in their actions and thoughts. A Christian’s burden should be light weight, but because they believe everything else needs their input for it to work “their” way, the word spoken through scripture must be captured, too, and used (manipulated) to fit their current lifestyle. I’m at a loss for this, and also guilty of compromise. Also, I think we aren’t supposed to walk looking for things in the world, look up instead and let the Faith carry you.
Thank you for this post. I’ve wondered the same thing myself a lot. I’m not quite sure why we see this problem so much…I think that it might partly be b/c too many churches here in America seem to care more about pop psychology and ppl having their “best life now” instead of lifting up the Word of God. We need less “purpose driven life” and more “BIBLE driven life.”
Are they undermining and rejecting the Bible, or are they interpreting it differently than you? How can any of us claim to be the only ones who are “right” and judge that someone else is or isn’t a Christian? What exactly determines if someone *is* a Christian? Is it a doctrine, a denomination, or the profession of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
Sorry, I’d write more, but your background is making me dizzy….
@tx_christian - I am talking about people who call themselves Christian’s but say that the bible is not the word of God. That it is just a book.
I am not talking at all about interpreting it different
I’m sure there are a variety of reasons probably anything from ignorance, exposure to bad doctrine, self righteousness, rebellion and even non-believers posing as believers to gain control over others or for the sole purpose of leading people astray.
It takes faith.. not reasoning.. to follow Christ. He made some pretty strong statements in the scriptures, and unless you have the Spirit interpreting the scriptures to your heart, it does appear to be contradictory. Eph 2:8-9 says faith is a gift from God.. not even something one can drum up on their own.
It could also be they’re simply very young believers, or believers who have been victim to those misusing the word of God for their own gain or control. In order to reconcile faith in their hearts, the reject what they’ve been taught. Unfortunately that often requires them to dismiss that scriptures are God breathed.
Ultimately, “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to bring it to completion.” If they are Christ’s they will grow in faith and belief. If they aren’t, they won’t. Thankfully Christ said for us to let Him sort it out in the end (the parable of the wheat and tares) and to trust Him.
The Bottom line answer is that you can not be a Christian and reject the bible. It is how you became a Christian. Without the Word of God there would be no way to know how to become a Christian or how we should live for God. It is our directions on How to live. I dont know what else to say. Except they are letting satan pull the veil over there eyes. and they are defeated.
Good post by the way.
@flipperiferous - Yeah, I agree. Milk, not solid food.
There are whole churches who don’t believe it is.
*sighs*
amen to this…
that’s part of my beef w/ the Christian team today… the lack of scriptural integrity… taking verses out of context… shoot taking whole Biblical concepts out of context or not even addressing them at all…
IE: suffering… God allows us even puts us in places TO suffer for His glory… we don’t like it, but didn’t Jesus say Himself, “All who pursue righteousness will suffer persecution…”? what about Job? God allowed Satan to do all those things to him… and who came out blessed in the end? Job? Why cuz he in the midst of all the hurricane, Job stilled said, “God You are God, I love you though I don’t understand what’s going on, YOu’re still God…”
i have a quote on my facebook that says, “I believe the Bible because it is a collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses that report supernatural events in fulfillment of specific prophecies which make the claim to be divine rather than human in origin.”
smellin what i’m steppin in?
I know a few people like that… they proclaim to be Christians, yet just pick and choose what they want to believe. It’s so frustrating because they totally miss the point.
There seems to be no lack of people, groups, whole churches who say they follow Christ ie: Christians; but then redefine who Christ is to fit their own person preferences. Sad. Anthing inconvienent or uncomfortable is explained away or simply dropped from their belief system.
I agree with you. I’m not much of a theologian, but I believe 100% that the bible is the true word of God. That how we are to live our lives comes out of that book. I’d love to see some examples of Christian people saying that it’s just a book. Most Christians I know wouldn’t think that way. I admit, I don’t spend much time over at revellife.
I am with you on this Kristen….there is no way someone can claim to be a Christian and not believe the Bible is the Word of God…they are their own god…..picking and choosing what to believe and what not to believe…..I have found it pointless to read them anymore…been through one too many “discussions” with them…..I just don’t read them anymore….
Word!
I always wonder about this too (and about the non-Christians commenting too lol). I think admitting the Bible as absolute truth also means admitting that the things that one enjoys doing day after day are wrong. Satan is the Deceiver and he will do anything in his power to lead us from the truth.
I run into this problem a lot from a Creation point of view. There are so many Christians that try to force evolution into the Bible just because they can’t defend a 6 day Creation.
Personally, I haven’t talked with anyone with this position (“I’m a Christian but the Bible is a fake”), but I would imagine it has a lot to do with buying into the lies of the world–specifically lies about truth and the nature of God. If you want to be a Christian but you reject the Word of God, something tells me that you’re not too big on the ideas of absolute truth, justice, restitution, or intolerance of sin. It also tells me you think God is nice rather than simultaneously merciful and jealous, loving and just, relational and awesome. Professing Christians who reject the validity or relevance of the whole Bible have not accepted all of who God is or all of what He wants.
By the way, I would postulate that you can in fact be a Christian in the simplest form of the word without believing in the Bible. God’s Word is vital for our spiritual health, guidance, and obedience–I’m not so sure it’s vital to our salvation. But really, as a Christian, why would you want to be saved and not obey? Selfishness anyone?

The Bible was INSPIRED by God, but WRITTEN by Man. As such, it is not perfect. The original sea scrolls were the closest to what God wanted his people to hear. The Bibles we cleave to today are just interpretations of interpretations of interpretations. Why? Because no one today would be able to read the original languages.
My favorite to read is the King James Version. It was interpreted and rewritten by drunks and poets at the request of King James, historically a very amoral person. I have no way of knowing which parts of my current day Bible were changed from what God wanted me to see by those writers. I believe that is why each person gets something different out of their scriptures. The Bible is merely paper and words. The true message has to come from God to your heart or it is just meaningless. The Bible is just a starting point for your Christian journey, a guide.
I agree with the first commenter. PUBLIC education to be exact.
I disagree that education is the cause of people not believing in the Bible as God’s divinely appointed work. There are a great number of very well-educated people who are believers and stand up every day for Christ in their environments. (Quite frankly I get peeved seeing Christians blasting education as the reason for all things that bother them personally about The Big Bad World.)
It is purely the devil getting to people. I would hope that much is clear. Satan and evil are just as real as God and good. Have you heard the song by Casting Crowns called Slow Fade? If you haven’t, please go give it a listen. Things don’t happen in a day or a week or a month or a year. It’s a slow progression towards the attitude, and it’s becoming more prevalent in our society.
Rather than complain about it, why not take a stand and do something about it? No, I don’t agree with everything I see posted on Xanga, but when I feel strongly about it (like now) I stand up and say something, even when I think it’s an unpopular idea. It’s important for Christians to reach out to people where they are. Ask questions, find out WHY they believe or don’t believe, and try to relate and help them. Make it relevant. It’s not easy for sure (and it’s one of the reasons I firmly believe evangelism on a wide scale is definitely a gift of God) but it is worth it when you see the light bulb come on in someone’s eyes.
Even you counterdict yourself in this post. You say it is the “Word of God” Then later on to go and say it was “written 1600 yrs ago over 60 generations and 40 authors” If that is so then it is not the word of god, it is simply the words of 40 different authors who all believed or followed the philosophy of god and wrote about their expereinces and circumstances and how they related it to their belief in god.
The bible is a great book of philosophy and ideas. i do not think of feel or even believe it is ment to be taken literally as the word of god.
God is an idea of something higher more advanced than humans. It may be human it may not be. However everyone can reach god hood, if they believe in themselves and take a philosophy of some kind believe in it long enough hard enough and practice and always question everything they do based ontheir beliefs. then anyone can be god. Because in my belief I am god, however I as a human have to work to better myself to reach that state of god hood.
In my mind most christians use the bible as a way to sin and be forgiven for it. They uise it as a scapegoat, not as a method to better their self or question how they are living their life. i tis simply a book and a church to go to to say sorry but i ssinned and well forgive me, so I can go out and do it again as soon as I leave church. they are called 6 day sinners and one day saints. Now this is just generalized and doesn’t mean all chirstians are that way.
I know plenty that are not who actually have a belief and use their bible to better their lives in the long run and are happy and comfortable with who they are and hwo they are and ont need a preacher tellign them what a books says because they read it themselves.
See were i can from faith is personal no matter what religion it is it is personal, thus a preacher can’t tell you what this bible says, because he is only tellign you what it says from his stand point. and everyones stand points are different.
I can’t at this moment & I can’t believe I am quoting with out knowing..( I hate that) but there is a scripture none the less that says in the time the people will fall away from the truth collecting teachers that teach only what tickles their ears..( totally paraphrasing here ) It also says people will perish because of the lack of knowledge.
Like SarahD says * sigh…………………………………..
that just seems crazy that people dont belive the Bible is the Word of God. Whose word do they think it is///? sombody who just thought it up? I think not…
crazy………..
@Nieza_Raven - About the numerous authors and viewpoints…here’s a big fat THANK YOU!!! to you…
And just an example to add onto your point about the Bible being a source of philosophical ideas rather than literal historical events…
Noah and the Arc is literally impossible in a sense that that an Arc of that size could have saved EVERY species from a flood that magnitude…especially considering the fact that the entire class of insects would have taken up all the space alone…let alone all the other large mammals…
Instead…it would make more sense to view the story of Genesis and Noah as a source of inspiration for perseverance and endurance in which we could all model our lives after…because really…isn’t the take-home message more valuable than the sum of literal events?
@drung888 - We usually think of Noah only taking two of every animal – but he actually takes seven of each clean animal, the ones you could eat, and seven of each bird.
Was there room for all this on the ark?
The ark would have been 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. The ark would have an internal volume of 1,518,750 cubic feet, or the equivalent of 569 standard railroad boxcars. If the average sized animal was the size of a sheep it means the ark could hold over 125,000 sheep. Assuming the shape of the ark to be rectangular there would have been over 100,000 sq. ft of floor space.
Why should we believe in a worldwide flood? First, because the Bible talks about it. But there are also a growing number of scientists who are finding support for a worldwide, catastrophic flood.
From an article by Dr. Henry Morris, written in August, 1998 – he gave quite a few reasons, but here are some of the easier ones to understand …
1. Shells on mountain tops
All the mountains of the world have been under water at some time or times in the past. You can see this with the sedimentary rocks and marine fossils found near their summits.
2. Sedimentary rocks
Most of the earth’s crust is made up of sedimentary rocks (like sandstone, shale, limestone, etc.). These were originally formed in almost all cases under water, with material being deposited by water from various sources.
3. Fossils require rapid burial and pressure
The so-called “ages” of the sedimentary beds (which make up the “geologic column”) have been dated by the types of fossils found in the layers. But making a fossil requires rapid burial and pressure in order for the fossil to be preserved instead of being decomposed. This fits a “catastrophic” view of geology, the idea that there was a huge disaster that caused the layers, not millions of years.
4. Flood stories around the world
There are traditions of a great Flood found in hundreds of tribes in all parts of the world. This sounds like those tribes all originated from one family preserved through the disaster.
Dr. John Morris, in an article from 2001, discusses these traditions found around the world. He’s collected over 200 of these stories and analyzed them with statistics to show how many parts of the story are found in each tradition. When he puts the stories together, it sounds just like the Genesis record.
God tells Noah to build an ark. Folks, he did not contract this work out. God called and Noah took those steps of faith and obeyed! This boat was approximately 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high, using 18 inches for a cubit. Think about it, this boat measured 1½ times the length of a football field and it was not until 1858 that a boat bigger than the ark was built. And keep in mind it was more like a barge, it was not built for speed or navigation, it just needed to float and withstand this storm of judgment. It was built for stability.
This ark had 3 decks on it with ceilings at least 12 feet high, giving the total deck space to be about 95,700 square feet! There was also a window around the top of the ark, near the roof, measuring about 18 inches that was used for light and ventilation. The weight of the ark has been estimated at about 15 to 20 tons!
One of the other problems that people have with this account is, “How in the world could all those animals fit into this boat?” First of all let’s deal the total volumetric capacity of the ark, which was approximately 1.4 million cubic feet. Now that may be hard to picture, so let me explain it this way. The three decks of the ark would be able to hold approximately 522 standard box cars. And each box car could hold 240 animals the size of a sheep. That means the ark could hold 125,000 animals with an average size equaling that of a sheep.
Dr. Henry Morris estimates that only 146 of those box cars would be needed to house the entire vertebrate population of about 35,000 distinct kinds. And some even bring that number down further, to only 16,000 distinct kinds of animals to preserve the created kinds. That would still leave more than enough room for food, water and living areas for only 28% of the arks volume was being used for the animals, the other 72% was open.
Were there dinosaurs on the ark? You bet, but again, keep in mind most of the dinosaurs were the size of sheep, only a few were large and if the large ones were taken on board, they were probably babies at that time, you would not need a full grown dinosaur on the ark!
The inside of the ark was covered in pitch to seal out the water. Now to me, that seems like overkill, why do both the inside and outside? The simplest explanation is that you want to make sure this boat is watertight; you don’t want to take any chances of it leaking. Also, maybe God wanted to preserve it as a witness to a future generation of what God has done in the past and is preparing to do once again, pour out His judgment upon a wicked world. Does that mean the ark is still around today? It is very possible and there has been many reports from people saying they have seen the ark in the mountains of Ararat! Let me just share with you a few of these reports. We are told:
In 275 B.C. Berosus, a Babylonian historian, wrote: “But of this ship that grounded in Armenia some part still remains in the mountains . . . and some get pitch from the ship by scraping it off.”
Around 75 A.D. Josephus said the locals collected relics from the ark and showed them off to this very day. He also said all the ancient historians he knew of wrote about the ark.
In 180 A.D. Theophilus of Antioch wrote: “the remains [of the ark] are to this day to be seen . . . in the mountains.”
An elderly Armenian man in America said that as a boy, he visited the ark with his father and three atheistic scientists in 1856. Their goal was to disprove the ark’s existence, but they found it and became so enraged they tried to destroy it, but could not because it was too big and had petrified. In 1918 one of the atheistic scientists (an Englishman) admitted on his deathbed the whole story was true.
In 1876 a distinguished British statesman and author, Viscount James Bryce, climbed Ararat and reported finding a four-foot long piece of hand-tooled timber at an altitude of more than 13,000 feet (4,300 meters).
Six Turkish soldiers claimed to see the ark in 1916.
In the early part of this [past] century, a Russian aviator named Vladimire Rokovitsky claimed the discovery of Noah’s ark. He was stationed in southern Russia near the Turkish border and Mount Ararat. As he tested a plane he and his co-pilot flew over Ararat and discovered on the edge of a glacier what he described as a boat the size of a battleship. He said it was partially submerged in a lake, and he could see there was an opening for a door nearly 20 feet (7 meters) square, but the door was missing. Rokovitsky told his commanding officer and an expedition was dispatched to find the ark and photograph it. The report was forwarded to the Czar, who was soon overthrown and the photos and the report perished.
In 1936 a young British archaeologist named Hardwicke Knight hiked across Ararat and discovered interlocking hand-tooled timbers at a height of 14,000 feet (4,600 meters).
During World War II two pilots saw and photographed something they believed was the ark on Mount Ararat.
There have been many more recent attempts to find and document the ark, but they have been hindered by politics and surrounded in controversy.
Do we need to find Noah’s ark to prove of a past judgment of God? Not at all. Just look at this earth and you will see the evidence of a worldwide flood, of a judgment of God! You see, as you look at this earth what you find are billions of dead things, buried in rock layers, laid down by water, all over the earth! Will they find the ark? They might, but for most people, it won’t change their minds because the heavens declare the glory of God and if you refuse the evidence that is now before you, finding the ark won’t change that!
when you look at the evidence that is out there,
you can see the remains of a devastating flood, brought on because
of the wickedness of man, to destroy all but 8 people and the
animals and birds that were aboard the ark. There is coming another
judgment and only those that are
in Christ will be saved from it.
I do not understand. How can you be (or call yourself) a Christian and not believe the bible?
Simple. You cant.
@drung888 - Thanks for your replay, it is great to see that other people actually understand it all in a philosopical type of way.

And, your post is the 2nd reason why I’m not looking at Revelife anymore. Thanks for this post!
@Kristenmomof3 - 1. Shells on mountain tops
All the mountains of the world have been under water at some time or times in the past. You can see this with the sedimentary rocks and marine fossils found near their summits.
My answer to this is: since most land masses are made from volcanco which over milliono f years create land, then off course their would be marnie fossils on them. Also since man has been around and beast who eat fish and other wildlife from ocaens and water bodies, hasn’t it ever occured to anyone that some animals carry their food miles before eating it and thus over years the remains of the eaten animals becoem fossils too.
2. Sedimentary rocks:: See above mentioned paragraph.
My answer; Valcanos, hello caue catastropic condiction everytime they erupt. Hence Pompe (excuse any spelling that migth be wrong)
To end: it don’t matter what book you read, you should alwyas question everything. Besides the book you are reading was written by someone who had reviewed what they wrote about and interperted what they found within their own means and purposes.
Which since everyone interperts things in their own individual way, no two minds will ever think exactly they same. Similar yes, never exactly the same. So if you only believe everything you read, then you are only taking a strangers word for it and not truly learning or discovering naythingon your own. Which would mean you are not an individual, yet jsut a sheep following a herd or shepard.

@Kristenmomof3 - However…this where I get confused…considering that Genesis proclaims that the planet’s entire population was created in 6 days…and with the flood occurring afterwards…and now I have learned that only 7 of each edible species and birds were allowed aboard…then where did the rest of the species arise from?
Secondly…though there is plenty of evidence for a great flood…was it THE flood? And when I say THE flood…I mean is it THE flood as created by God? With the geological forces of Earth being fairly powerful…equally violent…and usually random…what rules out the possibility that such a large-scale flood was instigated by nature? Could it have been merely a result of tectonic plate shifting?
And what of anything else on this planet? It is true that the conditions to fossilize dead remains are very strict…but does a catastrophic necessarily need to be the cause by a higher power? Could there not exist sudden mud slides due to violent rainfall and unstable geographical landscape?
…which also brings me to my next point of curiosity and confusing…
If we can’t explain it…does that mean God was responsible for it? Or does it just mean we can’t explain it?
…
Of course finding such an arc wouldn’t change the minds of non-believers and skeptics…but finding an arc would support the notion that the Bible was meant to read in with a literal filter rather than a source of philosophy…and that seems to be a larger issue than anything else…
Thank you for this post. I have had many concerns over the content of revelife myself. As for people who call themselves Christians and they do not believe the entire book of the bible is true, I pray for them to find more of the Truth, Jesus Christ. I know that I need more Truth in my life.
Blessings!
I believe that the bible was written by men inspired by God. I do not think it is the literal word of God. I am not sure if you intend to include people like me in your comments.
Satan has them blinded to the truth, which is the Bible. Since the Bible brings us to Jesus then satan would not want others to know this so he blinds them to it. Jesus says: Mark4: 11 & 12….And He said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parable: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted and their sins should be forgiven them. There is no way one person can explain why people are like this at all.
Made2sing4Jesus … I think this is the verses you are thinking of……”The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth” 2 Timothy 4:3-4
imho either the whole things true or the whole things false. one can not pick and choose. one can not say well this part is true but this part isn’t. it doesn’t work that way. people are also inclined to allow others to tell them what God’s Word says rather than actually studying it themselves.
so true… I am at seminary and have tons of education and still thin the whole bible is the inspired word of God… I find is discussions where epople try to live on both sides of the “Christrian fence” and it makes me sad and sometimes angry. I think reading some of the gospel of John would be evidence enough that one is for/against God, believer/unbeliever, Christians/not a Christian. Sure, there are those seeking, they are the exception – but they do not claim to believe, they usually will state thier questions and background openly.
Revelife attracts many who aren’t sold out to Christ.
@SuzieHuitt - Good for you!!
I think people spend their whole lives trying to convince themselves that they are good. So much so that when the Bible comes in to play and they see they have sin they reject that notion after all they are good. we hear so much about protecting our children’s self esteem and building them up which we should but I thin we are on over kill in some families. I know some school forbid teachers to use negative words. They cannot tell a child no or to stop. They have to find a positive way to tell a child no like redirecting the conversation. We ban so many what we call negatives from our lives that we reject the reality that the Bible is true and we are all sinners fallen from short of the glory of God. No one wants to think they are bad so they twist the Bible or say only portions of it are the Word of God so they can make their sin okay. I want to believe I am good as well but the Bible tells me my righteousness is as filthy rags and I am in need of a Savior. I had to come to the realization that the entire Bible is true and my sin is not okay and Praise god I have a Savior who will bridge the gap! I know I cannot judge who is saved or unsaved but I just do not see how someone could be a born again Christian and not believe the Bible is true.John cahpter 1 says the Word was God. If the Bible and God are that closely related how can you believe one and not the ohter and have a true Salvation? Maybe this i sone of those things we will find out in Heaven.
@drung888 - That is where faith comes in. If you truly believe God is God then you have to have faith that what he says is true. it is alot harder than it actually sounds to put faith in God, but when you do God is so good!
I agree with TX_Christian, I think there are those who interpret the “Bible” to meet their own needs, they forget about the parts that say “love thy neighbor” and “turn the other cheek” and “you without sin, cast the first stone”, instead they get all wrapped up in how others are going to go to hell, because they don’t translate the “Bible” the same way. There is a basic philosophy in Christianity which is very simple, “Love each other”…, I don’t think it is my place to point the finger at another person and say you are a sinner and you are going to hell, because I was taught, Biblically, that “we are all sinners, and fall short of the Glory of God.” I didn’t look that up, so I hope the translation is accurate enough for you. I know you probably noted that I was a little perturbed with your comment condemning me to hell because I talked about the lottery. I am sure that playing the lotto is a sin, but I don’t know Kristen, I remember a kinder, gentler you, and the person I remember was much more of an embodiment of Christ, and not quite so quick to throw stones. I hope that you will see this as an attempt on my part to understand where you are coming from. Is this some fear that you have or do you really have the best interest of all us sinners in mind? Either way, I am praying for you, and yes God listens to me…, I know because I have had answered prayers…like the blades of grass. I don’t mind you praying for me, in fact I welcome all prayer…, but please don’t judge me so hastily, okay? Finally, just a little English teacher note… since it is the “Word of God”, you should capitalize the name of books, and most especially the “The Holy Bible”… so it’s the “Bible”, right? I apologize for being angry…, anger is a sin, and I am quick to it… I am working on it, as I work on all my sins.
Hugs, Tricia
@pray14me - I wasn’t condemning you to hell for playing the lottery. All I was saying was I don’t play the lottery because I believe it is a sin.
What you feel on the issue is between you and God.
And this post is about people who say they are Christians but say they don’t believe the Bible is the Word of God. It has nothing to taking verses to mean different things or anything like that.
I am sorry if you are mad at me.
God bless
@tx_christian - @Kristenmomof3 - I have to say I had exactly the same questions in my mind that tx_christian had here. Kristen, what exactly are those Christians that you’re talking about saying? Are they saying “I don’t believe the bible is the word of God”, or something a little different?
@MrsDarcy_MrsDarcy_MrsDarcy - Are they saying “I don’t believe the bible is the word of God”, or something a
little different?
Yes, that is exactly what they are saying
They say it isn’t the word of God it is just a book with stories to help us be good people
@Kristenmomof3 - Well, one thing I’ve learned in my experiences is that everybody takes different spiritual paths to get to God. Some people take longer and are more hesitant, while some jump in with both feet and take in the whole Christian experience in big gulps. You can’t judge peoples’ standing with God based on some litmus tests, even if you think they are really important tests. Different people have different things to work through. I think it may be more spiritually dangerous to be theologically sound and feel you have nothing else to learn, than to be a bit of a sceptic and know you haven’t figured everything out yet.
@Nieza_Raven -
It is only the word of men if you fail to read the Scriptures for yourself and accept the claim that holy men wrote as God moved them, and accept that it was God behind their message.
@SuzieHuitt -
Sister “Kristen…”, you are right on. I think we need to actually read the Bible in several versions (translations, and at least one easy to read narrative Bibles like “The Message”). And, find the truth revealed: very little has changed in the actual reading meaning of the Bible. Even the “drunks and poets” of King James were used to transmit the truth. “SuzieHuitt” don’t believe just because it “feels right”. Study and know in spirit and in truth: both feeling and the written word. Put heavier weight on the written.
Thanks Kristen for being cool! Congrats on the impending birth. The sonogram photo is cute.
Hugs, Tricia
BTW: Not angry at all, just confused for the sudden attack on my character. Perhaps, I am too lax with my thoughts.
@pray14me - I’m not pregnant
That cute picture is my big boy who just turned 6 today.
He is growing up sooo fast.
I can’t have anymore children unless the Lord works a miracle. I would love another little girl. I would name her Hannah Mary. Some days I feel like she is missing from our family but I try to remember the Lord knows best and try to raise the three He gave me the best I can.
@pray14me - I wasn’t trying to attack your charactor. I am sorry if it sounded in anyway like I was. That was not my intention at all.
Got me. How can they?
Good point, friend. Well-said. I cannot help but admire your dedication to true Christianity.

I assumed the premie was in someway related, either way it is truly a miracle of God that a child that small can survive. My mom was a NICU nurse, and she tells stories of holding babies in her hands that were barely bigger than a walnut, well maybe not that small, but pretty darned small. I think when God allows a child like that to survive he has a special purpose for that, no matter how minor that cause might be. I believe God spared my useless life for some reason, not sure what it is yet, but not my place to question God, right?
I am not offended, so much, I think I was more concerned about you, but I think in retrospect I was just over reacting… so no worries.
Hugs, Tricia
@pray14me - it’s ok. It is easy to take people wrong when you are writing back and forth. You can read things into things that people don’t mean.
Believe me, I have done that before
Hope you have a great weekend. I am so happy tomorrow is Friday.
The Bible holds essential truths. It has also been translated and interpreted time and time again. I do not take the Bible literally word for word, nor do I need someone else to translate it for me. The Bible is one of many sacred scripts.
To me the worst Christian is the one that judges/condemns and tries to convert others to his/her way of thinking. I am not a practicing Christian per se. I do think that what Christ taught, Love God and Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself, about covers it. New Testament. I don’t get what all the fuss is about, but then wars have been fought over religions for centuries.
Be at Peace.
To answer your question simply… the Father of LIES does not want anyone to believe the truth, & he works day in & day out to lead anyone astray who is weak enough to hear his lies! But, we know, knowing the Bible to be the Word of God, that he will be defeated, & the truth will be made evident to all, even those who have been blinded by Satan’s lies.

Great post! The Bible is the Word of God. The acronyms for Bible: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. We should worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. Those who call themselves Christians and not believe in the Bible are not living out their purpose- to glorify God.
Belated Happy Birthday to your little preemie. God bless!
I’ve only read some of the comments, I don’t have a lot of time this morning. But there is a couple of points that I’d like to address.
You can not be a Christian and not believe that the Bible is the Word of God. Romans 10:17 states: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Also, there are not multiple paths to God. There is only one, and that is via Jesus Christ. John 14:6 states “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
As for the person who thinks that King James was immoral and that the translators were drunks, you really need to learn your history.
I got your message saying you wanted my thoughts on this.
Are you sure you want MY thoughts?
(I’m not Christian, which is why i ask…)
WOW… This populated a lot of responses!
Here’s the bottom line for me as a Christian: I don’t worry about it. I just follow it with the guidence of the Holy Spirit and the good common sense that GOD gave me.
Do I believe it is the WORD of God? I think at the very least it is the inspired word of God. I believe God inspired men to write it but I don’t know if it is the VERY WORD of God??
It’s one of those topics that can be debated till the cows come home, but we won’t know for sure until WE go home. Why not err to the side of caution and treat it for what it definately is: Sacred one way or the other. I do not believe it is simply a bunch of letters with no Godly inspiration.
Most people who don’t want to believe it are looking for excuses anyway. Faith is innocence, and blindly trusting what we cannot comprehend. So far the only thing in the Bible that seems a bit confusing is creation. But doesn’t God control time? It’s simple mathmatics, right? So, he’s GOD for heaven’s sake. A day is measured by rotation and seconds. Who’s to say God didn’t just slow the rotation down? I know, I know…too simplistic.
Again, I don’t worry about it. I trust God and THE WORD, HIS WORD, THE HOLY WORD, whatever to be my guidence. It has NEVER let me down. Going against the Word has gotten me in tons of trouble in the past.
GREAT POST KRISTEN!!!
Yeah, I have a friend like that…. I DO NOT GET IT!!!!!!! What are you basing your “faith” on? It makes me so mad. You can’t pick and choose what to believe either… it’s either all true or it’s all a lie. To say that part of scripture is irrelevant because of culture changes is to say God is not omnipotent, and that he, who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow; changed. How do you convince your “Christian” friend that the Bible really is all true, when he doesn’t want to believe ANY of Paul’s writings?
‘that just seems crazy that people dont belive the Bible is the Word of God. Whose word do they think it is///? sombody who just thought it up? I think not…’
I’m new here guys. Can you just explain why it seems crazy? and why somebody can’t have just thought it up?
