  • Steve Williams, passes away

Warning to those of you who dislike wrestling and have something against it, you have been warned that is what this post is about.

It is about a wonderful believer who has passed away. He was a wonderful man. He was also a wrestler.

    Steve Williams
    May 14, 1960—December 29, 2009

“Dr. Death,” Steve Williams, passed away at the age of 49 after battling throat cancer for many years.

An All-American football player and wrestler at the University of Oklahoma, Williams went on to wrestle in UWF, NWA, ECW, All Japan and WCW with Terry Gordy before joining WWE in 1998.

Steve Williams was a believer and brother in faith.

“I kept praying to God, and He opened the door,” said Williams, who devoted his time to working with a ministry group and at-risk kids. “I use the ring as an altar call, and I do my testimony from the ring and ask the kids if they want to give their lives to Christ, and then we pray together.”

He is now in the Hall-of-Faith in Heaven…and already reunited with his dad…and those he loved who preceded him.

    In Tribute of him…….

Thank you Dr. Death, and Rest in Peace

  • Though I personally don’t enjoy watching wrestling or any related sports and have no idea who this guy was, I couldn’t say that I am against wrestling. Its primary focus seems to be strategy and overpowering, not doing permanent bodily harm to the opponent. Is it safe to say that care is taken by officials of the game to make sure people don’t get hurt physically in wrestling, or am I just assuming?
I would have a bigger problem with boxing, or am I again displaying my ignorance of both sports? Is boxing/wrestling one and the same or is there a difference?
I also assume the “Dr. Death” name is used metaphorically, otherwise, whew- I would have reservations about the sport. :) I’d actually be glad for any education about wrestling- guess I could research it online, too. I just never took that much interest in it.

  • @mikenpeg - yes, wrestling is pretty “fake” The matches are planned in advance and both people know what is to happen when. There is always possibility for injuries in any sport

  • @Kristenmomof3 - I agree. Football produces a LOT of injuries, and I never heard anyone say it shouldn’t be played, except maybe my Amish family. :)

  • I don’t care for wrestling, but my hubby does! When I watch it, its more of a show and I call it a man soap opera ;) lol Now I cannot stand to watch MMA with hubby, too much blood

But anyway, from what I know, quite few wrestlers are Christians, and I am not going to judge them because they wrestle, that’s between them and God!

I am really surprised I hadn’t heard about his death, especially with him having ties to Oklahoma (every time when anything having ties to OK happens, in on the news here!)

  • It is sad when such a good person leaves this life, but it is also comforting to know that he touched so many lives for God.

  • I had never heard of him but think it is cool how he was used like that. Wrestling cracks me up :)

  • May he rest in peace, and may you live in peace. I read back through a few of your more recent posts. You are gifted with the word of God. thank you for sharing these things as you do. It is a great honor for you to serve Him well. It is a great honor for me to find His word here.

  • I was, and am a fan.  He will is and will be missed.  My prayers go out to his family.

  •  Have a blessed New Year! God bless, Pete

“I said to a man who stood at the gate of the new year; ‘Give me a
light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied, ‘ Go
out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That
shall be to you better than a light and safer than a known way.’ “
    Minnie L. Haskins

  • That’s so sad. RIP Steve Williams.
