  • RAW!!!!

Kristen is going Raw…..Food that is.

Raw foodism (or rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet.

A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed, raw plant foods that have not been heated above 46 °C (115 °F). Raw vegans believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost much of their nutritional value and are less healthy or even harmful to the body. Typical foods include fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains and legumes.

Live foods. It’s common sense right? A cooked seed won’t grow, but a raw seed will. Heating food over 118 degrees Fahrenheit destroys much of the nutrients in your food.

Enzymes. Cooking food destroys much of the natural enzymes (your body can also create enzymes, but can only do so much) in your food that are needed to break down nutrients. Eating raw eliminates this problem.

More regularity. You should naturally have around two to three bowel movements a day. If you’re going less than that, it probably means your intestines are unhealthily clogged. A raw diet gives you more than enough fiber to keep you regular.

What are your thoughts? Anyone willing to try Raw for 30 days? Try it!

  • Interesting! Sounds kind of like becoming a vegetarian.. ?

  • @crazy2love - it is like being Vegan/Vegetarian but it is also not cooking the food. That is where the raw comes in. Many Vegans cook food….rawists do not

  • I’ve heard of people on Raw diets, except including raw meats. I could never do that…temporarily, I might be able to do a raw vegan/vegetarian diet, but I could never give up meat permanently! Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

  • I never thought I’d have the willpower to go 100%, but I’m on day 8 and I’m feeling AMAZING!!!!! It took a long time and many tries before I able to go more than 2 days! I was going to start with a week (didn’t think I’d make it!) got that under my belt and I’m going to make it 30!! One thing that surprised me was the difference between high and ALL raw! I thought I’d be able to get away with MOSTLY raw, but I discovered at least for me, the difference between 95% raw and 100% made ALL the difference! I wish we lived closer, it would be nice to have a raw buddy!!! :D

  • i’ve changed my diet significantly over night. i tend to make a lot of drastic lifestyle changes like… just the next day. but i think i’ll pass on this one. lol i’m like a little kid even if i LOVE certain fruits and veggies i still have the whole ewwww i want real food LOL

is your whole family in on this?

  • Yes! Totally awesome!!! Thats partially how i lost my weight. I try to eat mostly raw, but havent lately so much. Lol. But yeah! I will do it with you for 30 days! We can have nuts and seeds too :) i know once ya get off it the old cravings for bread creep up
on you again, but its good at least to try to eat more raw at any rate. Cool post!! :)

  • How do you get enough protein? I’ve never tried raw, but I have tried going mostly or all fruit and veggie, and always struggle with the protein part. Right now, I’m pregnant and craving red meat, so no can do. ;)

  • @versatil - my husband and I. Not the children

  • @mikenpeg - nut are one of the ways

  • @mikenpeg - people need far less protein than they think. For many years, the beef, dairy and other industries have hammered out their message that abundant animal sources of protein are necessary. The government too, thanks to the tireless work of special interest food lobbyists, has also endorsed high protein. In truth, humans need far less protein than they think. If you consider that babies – who grow and develop rapidly – get only about 6% protein through breast milk, the most natural and best food for developing children, it only stands to reason that adults need just as much or even less.

Green, leafy vegetables have a surprising amount of protein per volume.

  • you are lucky if you can do this…

  • great post!  I have been having an ongoing battle with my younger sister for decades trying to convince her that ‘cows milk’ is for ‘baby cows’ and not for human consumption….

  • @Kristenmomof3 - good man! i wonder if the kids will catch on hehe

  • The lower the statement in you post, the lower the credibility of that statement.  There is nothing wrong with eating uncooked plants, but the supposed added advantages you list are not all rooted in scientific fact.  I did not follow your links, but hopefully you are mindful of some of the common vitamin deficiencies that can occur when pursuing a “raw diet.”  Good luck with the experiment.

  • This is really interesting, and anything that has people saying “I’ve bee doing it and I feel GREAT” is something I’m willing to consider.  Does it mean I have to give up KFC double down sandwiches (cause that might be a deal breaker! LOL)

  • Good luck! It’ll be tough but once you get past the first couple of weeks it will be easier.
