I told somebody I didn’t believe in god, and they said, “Oh yes you do!” Whaat?
Pretty much sums it up.
Just have to add in all the crap Loborn’s ever said. “Atheism is fascism/communism/illogical/the inability to reason.” blah blah blah.
Christians here on Xanga give me shit too. And I’m getting tired of it.
I’ve literally never said any of those to an atheist. Except maybe “It’s not meant to be taken literally.” But let’s just face it, I’ve said that to way more Christians than I have atheists.
I can think equally of everyone. Bible thumpers are annoying. Might as well have the Westboro Baptist Church represent all of Christianity if this keeps up.
It’s not like atheists ever say annoying things to Christians. Things alluding to how feeble minded they are, not able to think for themselves. Or do whatever their preacher says. Things about how they hate science, or are a culture of ignorance. Accusations of hate and such. That *never* happens.
It’s all in perspective.
@whyzat - Did you challenge the speaker on the point?
i’ve never said these things to an atheist. but i have had atheist’s say pretty mean things to me. no one is innocent here.
I think my favorite is “why don’t you kill people then?”
@mtngirlsouth - There is a bit of a difference in scale, degree, and ubiquity. What percentage of the U.S. are evangelical Christians? What about Atheists? In the same sense, I doubt the few racist African-Americans made much of a dent into the culture Jim Crow during 1950′s.
@grizzlybearr - “i’ve never said these things to an atheist. but i have had atheist’s say pretty mean things to me. no one is innocent here.”
I feel the point of the clip is beyond personal rudeness. Assholes come in all shapes, sizes and beliefs. The larger thesis is that Christianity and Christian misunderstanding is pervasive in American culture. This is absolutlely evident when we go to the history of the country and some of the anti-non-Christian legislation and statements by political figures.
@Celestial_Teapot - Yeah but the intensity of some atheists more than makes up for it. things like we are all abusing our children telling them about God
@Celestial_Teapot - No, it was my mother-in-law. We never spoke about it again. She never tried to change me.
@Celestial_Teapot - The thing is, as long as we still have liberty, then people are going to say/think/believe annoying, offensive things. The beautiful thing about it all is, we are aall at liberty to think/believe/say them. I am not getting into a pissing contest as to who has it worse.
@mtngirlsouth - There is nothing beautiful about bigotry, intolerance, and misunderstanding. The purpose of free speech rights is to be able to have a conversation and to sort out true and useful ideas from poor and harmful ones– and this is precisely what we’re doing here.Merely pointing out that we have the liberty to believe and say whatever we want adds nothing to the discussion.
“I am not getting into a pissing contest as to who has it worse.”
Whether you’re willing to acknowledge it or not, atheists are discriminated against. Muslims too. The civil rights of an entire swath of our community– of gays and lesbians– are denied equal treatment under the law. All of this stems from the Christo-centric culture of this country. It’s not a pissing contest when we’re discriminatorily assigned seperate restroom stalls.
@Celestial_Teapot - “There is nothing beautiful about bigotry, intolerance, and misunderstanding.”
There is something beautiful about the liberty to believe/think/and say anything you want to. I am beginning to think that you would only give such liberty to those with whom you agree. Which would mean you do not understand what liberty is supposed to be about, and would make you just as bad as the religious who would use the law to force all to adhere to their belief system.
“Merely pointing out that we have the liberty to believe and say whatever we want adds nothing to the discussion.”
On a blog entitled, “Shit Christians say to atheists,” it seemed to be about atheists having annoying/offensive things said to them. In a free country, such things are bound to happen. You do not have the right to never be offended. And, in the private sector, if everyone were actually free, you would not have the right to never be discriminated against. Because when people are actually free, that means you do not get to police how they think or act on their own time within their own property. real liberty is not about making everyone always feel good. It is about live and let live. Not going into the private property of another and then demanding they behave the way you think they ought to. But, I am beginning to think that you are all for removing the liberty of others if you think they are wrong. The dangerous thing about that is it can turn on you one day.
“The civil rights of an entire swath of our community– of gays and lesbians– are denied equal treatment under the law.”
That is because the law has jurisdiction where it has no business having any.
To this day my grandma refuses to believe I’m an atheist. She likes to say that I don’t know what it means. I’ve defined it for her and expressed that I have perfect understanding of what it means, but she still says I don’t know. I’ll ask her to define it then, and she won’t respond. She even goes around telling people that I’m “not an atheist.” (I know this because she said as much to my stepmother in the doctor’s office). “You’re not an atheist, you’re an agnostic.” FRUSTRATION.
“I’ll pray for you.” “Oh you believe in god deep down, I know it!”
I love and hate these videos lmfao. Obviously the people making these videos are just poking fun at Christians, and they don’t think that every Christian feels this way, but there are sadly Christians who do this. I just hate religion jokes more than racist/other types of jokes because it’s such a controversial topic. Just as Black/Jew jokes where much more controversial when they were discriminated against (more-so than now [I've never
really
seen discrimination around my hometown, but I'm also from a very accepting/diverse community]).
It’s annoying. I wish people would leave people the fuck alone.
LOL! This is why I avoid evangelists like the plague! It’s so insulting to be talked to that way by them that’s it’s literally beneath my dignity to acknowledge the conversation. Cue shut door.
“You know you’re worshipping Satan, right? Even though you’re calling him ‘Goddess & God’. It doesn’t matter. If you’re not worshipping the god of the bible, you’re worshipping Satan. You just don’t know it.”
“Anyone who isn’t raising their children according to the bible should have their children taken away.”
“What?! How can you not raise your children christian? That’s child abuse!”
Said through clenched teeth: “I’ll pray you find your way to the right god.”
“Feminist theology isn’t real.”
“WHAT?! Of course god is only male! Why do you think men have headship?!”
Recently from a young guy who mistakenly identified me as an atheist and was pissed off that I disproved his point regarding atheism: “You’re wrong. Go have sex with Noam Chomsky you godless ape.”
That last one gave me the full body giggles.
You have to kind of see it from the christian point of view. Mostly, they are in love with their own ego and their own ignorance. It’s what gets them through the day and the dark night. So, when they give you shit, you’ve got to just say, wow, what an ego. Or, quote Shakespeare, as Sting says. It throws bible-philes and drunks off every time.
BTW, great page header on the wallpaper!!!
I love the disclaimer at the end of the last video.
a friend of mine asked why i was so adamant about insisting that atheists can and do have morals (a classmate of mineclaimed it was fundamentally impossible for an atheist to have morals) and as part of my explanation i told her i have several very close friends who are atheists. her response: “seriously? are they…dark?” i laughed out loud and asked if she meant their race or their clothing. she said, “i mean, like are they goth or something?” sometimes people’s ignorance makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.
Did anyone else find the girls in the first two videos attractive?
@trunthepaige - Two wrongs don’t make a right. Especially if you’re touting a belief that is supposedly “wholesome” and “loving”.
I will have to come back to listen to the video’s…
I believe that my faith in God helps me to be a better person; it does not make me better than everyone else.
@ZombieMom_Speaks - Actually my atheist father said that we know God is a male, b/c if It were a female, She would be “GodDESS”. Though that was in jest.
I like the ones who are professed Agnostics. “Well, if it turns out I’m wrong, what’s the harm?” That’s what my mom does. She grew up Catholic, and now she’s kind of just a Theist (the whole “something couldn’t have come of nothing” crap).
“God shows Himself all around us. How else would we have love, or feel spiritual when we see a sunset.” Biology 101 is the answer.
If I may, I would like to ask you the intended purpose of this post. Is it meant to mock a certain stereotype of Christianity as it would appear or to possibly ride a wave of controversy for the purpose of gaining comments? I’m sure I’m going to get trolled just for asking but I mean this as a sincere question to you as the one posting and not for some bystander to answer with their interpretation. I certainly see a lot of hatred towards Christians in the comments and it makes me wonder if a handful of stereotypical individuals who were likely all well-meaning but ignorant on a point or two are seriously just cause for the malice and mockery I see here. As a Christian myself, it saddens me but I also find it somewhat ironic. What I mean by that is that the hatred I see here in the commentary is the stereotype that most Christians are used to seeing. In fact, the shock of “…but you’re so nice!” is because people like that are so used to Atheists treating them much the way many here demonstrate. Obviously, not all Atheists are uncaring individuals, but they are individuals. In the same way, so are Christians. So rather than to post three nearly identical videos that cast a poor stereotype that actually promotes both stereotypes, would it not be the wiser course of action to treat all as individuals?
but biased are we? its like me writing a hate blog about obama. way to offend christians…….when atheists are just as stupid
@Jeremy_Sheer - Actually, yes. When you’re part of a belief system that prides itself on being ‘the only true way to god’ and take an active role in proselytizing to others in an attempt to change their beliefs (which is also a sneaky attempt to change who they are) based upon your beliefs, that’s having a bias.
Atheists, Pagans, Buddhists, Hindus and most people of other religions (or none at all, as in the case of atheists), are just fine with who you are as long as you aren’t trying to change us or spread lies about other religions or atheism. Live and let live. We don’t proselytize and would never take an active role in attempting to change someone’s religious belief. What another person believes and who they are is their own damn buisness. See the difference?
Why can’t we all just get along? Life is too short for bullshit. Just enough time to love, if nothing else accept others. That’s all we all ask.
“I’m not trying to say we have it worse than atheists, but we pretty much do.”
@ZombieMom_Speaks - oh no you again. Shut up. I really dont need your opinion on a question i didnt ask you. You are always a real Ahole when i ask people questions on other people blogs. I wasnt trolling and I wasnt being rude. I just said this blog is biased. look at other peopels comments besides mine. Oh you wont! you would rather troll me! talk to @LKJSlain or @Jmallory and write the same comment you wrote me. You decided to pick on me because im nice and easy. well, i didnt read anything you said except the first two sentences. You are rude and inconsiderate. I just said the blog is biased. I didnt call her an idiot or you an idiot. You are jerk and im calling you out. mind your own business.
@ZombieMom_Speaks - i just called her out for being rude cause it is why dont i make fun of you because you cant stop having kids? see the difference? im blocking you this is the last time i will have you cybur bully me when i didnt say anything to you or ask for your opinion
@Jeremy_Sheer - Actually, the only time I’ve encountered you is on one other blog (opticalnoise), so I don’t know about the ‘other people’s’ blogs (implying more than one) you’re referring to. You wouldn’t go into someone else’s house and rearrange their furniture – telling them what to say on their own blog is the same thing. The fact that you think it’s okay to do so (but would be pissed off beyond reason if someone stepped onto your blog and did the same thing) speaks volumes about your maturity and personal development. And what the hell are you talking about with ‘can’t stop having kids’? I haven’t had any more children in over ten years and stopped long ago, with no intention of ever having any more. I have commented with LKJ Slain and as far as I know, we don’t have a problem with one another. Once again, you have no clue what you’re talking about. Your accusation about cyber-bullying is bullshit too, since I haven’t commented to you on your blog or on anyone else’s since our last conversation on Khai’s blog. One comment does not a bully make.
Also, my comment to you here wasn’t rude. You calling me out is hilarious, however. If I couldn’t out-think a reactionary, childish dolt like you I’d fucking kill myself. How do you intend to call me out, considering you’ve blocked me? Dumbfuck.
@ZombieMom_Speaks - I blocked him because he blocked me but then came on and said vile things on todays post. So I blocked him and deleted the vile nasty comment.
@Kristenmomof3 - LOL!! Now his little head will explode.
@Kristenmomof3 - I’m so sorry. You really seem to be catching your share of crap today…and then some.
@ZombieMom_Speaks - that’s ok. This is one of the best days for it because I am not taking any of it personally. Some days shit like today would hurt but I am having a damn good day today So FUCK THEM
